birthday!

It's here! We decided after my doctors appointment that we were going to get induced today! Luckily the hospital had room for us, so we are off in just a few minutes to become parents. Crazy, huh?? Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night with the combination of heartburn with just a little excitement and anticipation! I think I got in bed around midnight after packing up several bags of stuff I'm sure I won't need, but woke up basically every hour until 4:45am. At that point I knew I wasn't going back to sleep so I just tried to relax and rest in bed a little longer.

Tyler and I went out to dinner last night on our last date as a childless couple and it was so nice. Anybody been to Cavalli Pizza in McKinney? We split some gnocchi, salad, and margherita pizza for our "last meal". After that we came home, packed, and Tyler promptly fell asleep while I packed, repacked, and then jealously watched him snooze.

There's no telling what today has in store for us, but I'm so excited to be going through it all with my love. We start with pitocin and breaking my water this morning- here goes nothin!

hello due date!

Well, the day we've been counting down to for 40 weeks is finally here! Unfortunately, it's a little anticlimactic without the baby's arrival. Tyler and I spent the day lounging around the house with me timing some contractions in the hopes they were the real thing! I've been having BH contractions probably every 10-15 minutes most of the day but they haven't amounted to anything. Come on baby! Tyler went to youth group tonight and stopped on his way home to get me a dipped cone from DQ, so the day has definitely ended on a good note. Maybe tomorrow will be more eventful in the labor department! If not, my next doctor's appointment is Tuesday. . .

39 week appointment

I had my most recent appointment Tuesday at 10:30. I've been having a lot of contractions lately, especially ones that keep me up at night, so my belly has been sore. When my doctor felt around on the outside to tell what position the baby is in I realized how tender I was! She said I'm 70% effaced and still dilated the same from last week. She said I'm basically ready to go into labor since I'm effaced so much, but there's still no telling when he's gonna come!

She stripped my membranes (which if you don't know, involves separating the edge of the amniotic sac from the cervix), and I had lots of cramping and lower back pain for the rest of the day. Some people go into labor from the procedure so I had my hopes up a little bit- but nothing has come of it so far except a night of obnoxious contractions that kept me awake. On the upside I've gotten a lot of reading done lately when I haven't been sleeping!

I can't believe my due date is only 4 days away. I was telling Tyler the other day that even though the logical part of my brain realizes I won't be pregnant much longer, the other side of my brain thinks this baby is never going to come! I can't wait to spread the good news when labor starts and again when we meet our son.

38 week appointment

Only 4 more days of school before my maternity leave starts- wow. The end of exam week is a good stopping point and I'm glad to not be starting the new semester, but I can't believe it's just a few days away! I'll be sad to not see all my friends at work every day and I think the days will pass pretty slowly until the baby comes. It will be a relief to just relax for a few days but hopefully he won't keep us waiting past my due date!

I had an appointment this afternoon during my conference period and learned a whole lot of nothin! She said there's basically no change since last week in my dilation, his heartbeat sounds good, and as long as I don't have the baby before then- she'll see me next week. Sometimes no news is good news though I guess- we are lucky that he and I have been so healthy all 9 months!

37 week appointment

The results of cervical exam number 2 look promising! Tuesday afternoon I was 1 cm dilated and "very thin" according to the doctor. Apparently my cervix is also "very posterior and off to the side" which, in layman's terms, meant the exam HURT. It's nice to know something's happening down there though with all the contractions I've been having over the past week. I can't believe some pregnant people don't know what braxton hicks even are!

Today at work was a little uncomfortable- my whole belly feels sore and it's almost like period cramps sometimes. It's also starting to hurt when he makes big movements- I think because my skin (and probably uterus) are stretched almost to the max. A piece of good news though that I discovered tonight- it's really easy to shave around your ankles when they're so swollen the bone doesn't get in the way! There's your silver lining, folks.

37 weeks

Our baby boy is full term! I'm ready for him to come any day now since my mom had her first two kids around 37 weeks, but who knows when it will happen for me! Back to school tomorrow. It's always hard to go back after a couple weeks off- I'm so out of it and can't remember what I'm even supposed to be doing in my classes. I got some of my grading done over the break, but these last couple of nights Tyler and I have been busy doing things around the house so I think I'm going to procrastinate on all the rest of the papers. I feel HUMONGOUS and can't believe how much I've changed over 9 months! I'll put in a before picture with this post to emphasize the difference.

I'm starting to get excited that labor could start at any time and that we'll soon be meeting him and announcing his name to everyone! I'm also looking forward to a decrease in the nighttime heartburn. UGH- I'm over it.
